Keep Country Wild on Tommy Hilfiger

A maverick singer-songwriter Eric Church takes the art of making music seriously. He’s well aware that what he gets to do for a living is a privilege, and he feels a weight of responsibility to be progressive enough in his songwriting, recording and production to push the envelope creatively with his vigorous Tommy Hilfiger Clothes.
You’ll hear nothing at all ordinary on Church’s newly released third album, “Chief,” which, as Church acknowledges, has “a wildness to it.” He calls it “the most aggressive record I’ve made” by putting on his jacket and Tommy Hilfiger Jeans. Mistakes were deliberately left in to give the record more of a live feel, as was some of the talking between the musicians. “Like Jesus Does,” a cut featuring Miranda Lambert on backing vocals, was recorded in just one take.
His win at this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards for New Solo Vocalist came five years into his professional career. But Church is happy with the place he’s carved out for himself in country music, and with his loyal fan base. “It’s about making music that maybe is not normal for the format,” he says by putting on his gentil shirt and Tommy Hilfiger Shoes “Creatively, it’s more fun for me making music that’s kind of odd. It likes that I see Tommy Hilfiger Polo Shirt at the first time, so excited and happy.”
Yet critics who act like they’re the country music police determining what is and isn’t “country” are a huge pet peeve for Church. “They piss me off,” he says by putting on his energetic Tommy Hilfiger T Shirt. “It aggravated me to no end because music has to evolve. If I make the same music that was made in 1974 over and over and over, why not just go back and listen to the music made in ’74? You don’t need new music. It has to have evolution.”
He makes clear that his desire to be progressive doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a deep respect for country music’s roots. “I have a huge reverence for country music,” he says. “I would challenge anybody to go toe-to-toe with me with an acoustic guitar doing any solid gold country song they want to do, because I’ve done ‘em all, and I’m a fan of ‘em all.” In fact, he’s so proud of “Chief” . Church co-wrote all but one of the album’s 11 tracks.
